The Last | The Heel | The Stamp
Before the shoe- there is the last. The last keeps the secret of the shoe. It’s all about balance, comfort and elegance. This is the first pair of lasts manufactured by a formificio (Italian for “form-maker”) for Nicolai-shoes. The formificio is situated in the magic triangle of the Brenta shoe region.
Nicolai-shoes’ wooden heels are manufactured by a tacchificio (Italian for “heel maker”). The family business is situated in a tiny village in the Riviera del Brenta area. The form of Nicolai-shoes’ heel is measure made: a 4cm heel, comfortable to walk and stand and still looking like a heel. Wide enough to feel secure. Perfectly melting with the last.
Each shoe is stamped with a metal stamp stampa di ferro pressed into the leather sole as a proof of quality and origin. The metal stamp is carefully carved by specialists in the exact size to fit onto the small space between the heel and where the sole touches the floor.
